Matapiro Station New Zealand, premium beef suppliers for Nature's Beef

Matapiro Station

Matapiro Station is 2284 hectares and based in the Crownthorpe, Hawkes Bay.

At Matapiro, we are committed to sustainable practices. We’ve spent the last two decades developing our systems and perfecting our methods, always with a focus on environmental responsibility, animal welfare and quality.

Our approach to pasture rotation is to ensure we reduce our carbon footprint while maximising animal growth. This system leads the pack in this class of stock due to the emphasis we put on young cattle feed conversion factors and growth rates, ensuring all heifer calves are grown out to kill weights within 15-16 months and they never go through a second winter.

Responsibly-raised beef that’s good for you, the land, and the future.

Dairy Beef

We buy in 400 x 100kg beef from dairy heifer calves which are bred from excellent beef genetics.

These finish well at 450-460 kg within 12-13 months on farm.

Cattle

We carry 1300 Angus cows  plus replacements, around 40 Angus bulls.

We finish 300 R1 & 300 R2 heifers and a few steers.

Sheep

We trade and finish around 30,000 lambs p/a.

Cropping

We have a water consent to irrigate 80 ha of flat cropping land which provides for all our own home grown winter feed supplement requirements which are predominantly maize silage and lucerne.

The lucerne doubles as an excellent finishing feed for the lambs.

Environmental Work

We have fenced and protected the majority of our native bush stands and wetlands.

Moving forward we aim to plant 10-15 ha per year in native bush around waterways and gullys leading to waterways.

Over time we will replace all pine forestry with natives as we harvest the pine trees.
